The Phoenix Suns will return to Mexico City in December as part of the NBA's Mexico City Games 2019, the NBA announced Friday.
The Suns will face the San Antonio Spurs at the Arena Ciudad de Mexico on Saturday, Dec. 14, two days after the Dallas Mavericks and Detroit Pistons face off in the same arena. It will be the 29th and 30th NBA games in Mexico City since 1992 and will mark the first time that four teams will play in Mexico in the same regular season.
The Suns played two regular-season games in Mexico in 2017.
“We had a transcendent experience hosting two regular-season games in Mexico City in 2017 and our entire organization is excited about returning to Mexico as a home team next season," Suns president and CEO Jason Rowley said in a statement. "Our relationship with Mexico is special and it’s a tremendous opportunity to continue engaging our growing group of supporters in that region, while helping expand the NBA and the game of basketball to a very passionate fan base.”
