I've had several people ask me: Are you surprised by the Jeff Hornacek firing?
All I can really say is: No, I'm not surprised... but also, I'm a little surprised.
Here's what I mean: When your bosses basically give you an ultimatum to turn a team around, and one month later you continue your humiliating slide down the Western Conference standings, losing 19 of your last 21 games... it's not surprising you're out of a job.
What is surprising to me is how such a talented coach could struggle so mightily. The guy was runner-up for NBA Coach of the Year just two seasons ago!
Hornacek is not a bad coach -- he's a good coach in a horrible situation.
Injuries. Under-performing players. Prima donnas. I'm not so sure how many coaches in the league could have succeeded in Phoenix this year. It was a perfect storm for coach Jeff Hornacek.
