The Arizona Diamondbacks have responded to reports that assistant coach Ariel Prieto was spotted wearing an Apple Watch during Wednesday’s Wild Card game against Colorado.
"Ariel Prieto has assured us that this was a simple oversight and honest mistake. The watch he wore last night was absolutely not used in any way related to our game and we will make certain prior to the NLDS that it will not be an issue again. Ariel takes full responsibility and feels terrible that this has been a distraction of any kind."
Coach Ariel Prieto was spotted during the broadcast in the second inning of the game with his armed slightly raised, and an electronic watch appears to be visible on his wrist.
Back in September, the Boston Red Sox were fined an “undisclosed amount” by the MLB for reportedly deciphering signs using an Apple Watch in a game against the New York Yankees.
The commissioner's office also said they notified all other major league clubs about the rules surrounding electronic devices in the dugouts, and any violations could result in loss of future draft picks.
So far Major League Baseball has not commented on the incident.
