Doug Ducey rooting for godson in Fiesta Bowl

Arizona State's last appearance in the Rose Bowl came in 1997, when Jake Plummer and the Sun Devils lost a 20-17 heartbreaker to the Ohio State Buckeyes.

But that won't stop Arizona Governor and ASU alum Doug Ducey from pulling for the Buckeyes when they face Notre Dame in the BattleFrog Fiesta Bowl in Glendale on New Year's Day.

Why? Because Ohio State defensive lineman Tommy Schutt just so happens to be Ducey's godson.

Ducey met Schutt's father while they both attended ASU, and the two have remained close friends.

A true senior, the 6-foot-3, 290-pound Schutt has played in 31 games for the Buckeyes. The former four-star recruit out of Glenbard West High School near Chicago is majoring in communications at OSU.

Ducey will be in attendance at University of Phoenix Stadium on Friday to cheer on Ohio State, the defending NCAA champions.

This year's Buckeyes went 11-1 and will make their seventh all-time Fiesta Bowl appearance.
