CHAMPS! ASU wins 'Heroes of the Dorm' title

In case you didn't know -- and if you have a large number of ASU fans in your Twitter timeline, you definitely know -- eSports have become quite the thing.

And Blizzard Entertainment's "Heroes of the Dorm" has become the Super Bowl of the gaming world.

The competition features "Heroes of the Storm," a MOBA (multiplayer online battle arena) video game released last year. There's even a commentary crew and a live crowd.

This year, teams from dozens of colleges and universities across the United States and Canada entered the competition.

The Arizona State Sun Devils' team is one of North America's best; it advanced all the way to the finals of last year's competition before coming up just short of the national title.

This year, ASU's team, AKA "The Real Dream Team," finished the job. It steamrolled all comers, including a 3-0 sweep of UT-Arlington on Sunday, to win the "Heroes of the Dorm" championship, which was televised live on ESPN2 Sunday night.

If you don't think that's a big deal, consider this: Each member of the winning team earns a $25,000-per-year scholarship for the rest of their collegiate careers, or $25,000 toward a loan repayment if they're graduating soon.

And hey, it takes a champion -- in this case, a former NCAA men's basketball champion -- to recognize a champion.
