Vegas oddsmakers aren't buying the Diamondbacks

Posted

Despite one of the best hitting lineups in Major League Baseball and the addition of a pair of marquee starting pitchers, Las Vegas oddsmakers aren't pegging the Arizona Diamondbacks as World Series favorites.

Westgate SuperBook gives the D-backs just 30-1 odds to win the 2016 World Series. No less than 14 MLB teams are given better odds to win it all, including their NL West rivals, the Los Angeles Dodgers (10-1) and San Francisco Giants (12-1).

The D-backs, who went 79-83 last season, were one of the biggest movers in the 2015-16 offseason, acquiring aces Zack Greinke and Shelby Miller to shore up their pitching rotation. Their 720 runs scored in 2015 were second most in the National League.

The Chicago Cubs, which advanced to the National League Championship Series last year, are this year's odds-on favorites. Westgate SuperBook gives the Cubbies 4-1 odds to win their first World Series title since 1908.

Last year's World Series champions, the Kansas City Royals, have 18-1 odds, according to Westgate.

The biggest longshots? The Philadelphia Phillies and Atlanta Braves, both of which are listed at 500-1.
