Hockey players are famous for missing teeth. But missing a part of your ear? That's... different.
But that's what happened to former Arizona Coyotes left winger Daniel Winnik on Thursday night.
Winnik, who now plays for the Washington Capitals, lost a piece of his ear while blocking this shot during a game against the host Florida Panthers.
The video isn't graphic... though, you know, it can be tough to watch knowing the shot cost Winnik a piece of his ear.
Capitals coach Barry Trotz announced Winnik's injury (in a rather casual way) after the game.
Listening to tape of Trotz talking about this, and he was so nonchalant. "He was just fine, just missing a piece of his ear."

Trotz: "It's just a small piece, but it got chewed up."

Winnik was selected 265th overall by the Coyotes in the 2004 NHL Entry Draft. He spent three seasons with the Coyotes and one season with the now-defunct Phoenix RoadRunners of the ECHL.
