Q&A with ESPN anchor, ASU alum Matt Barrie

He lives on the other side of the country these days, but that doesn't stop ESPN anchor and Arizona State alum Matt Barrie from following his Sun Devils.

Barrie, who's as passionate an ASU alum as you'll find and frequently tweets about Sun Devil football, is in town this weekend in preparation for Monday's College Football Playoff National Championship Game in Glendale.

But before the big game, Barrie sat down with ABC15 sports anchor and fellow ASU alum Jason Snavely to chat about a number of topics, including his favorite things about Arizona and, of course, his Sun Devils.

Here's a sample from their conversation, but make sure to click the above video to catch the chat in its entirety.

Q: What's the first thing you do when you come back to Arizona?

A: First thing I like to do is go eat Mexican food. We have great food in Connecticut ... but you can't get Arizona-style Mexican food, not like they have it out here. And then I always put it on my list -- if there's time between work, I have to hike Camelback Mountain. It's one of my favorite things to do to work out.

Q: How closely do you follow ASU football?

A: I'm on (ESPN) in the morning, so when ASU gets one of those 10:15 p.m. Eastern kicks, I'm taking a nap earlier on Saturday to be able to watch the game that night. But any time they're on, I try to watch and follow them closely. I think Todd Graham's got a really good thing going.

Q: What were you thinking when Graham decided to kick an extra point instead of going for two late in the Cactus Bowl?

A: Look, it's easy to second-guess at the end of the day, and he'll be the first to tell you he probably should've gone (for two) ... at the end of the day, I was like, "You know what? This season needs to be over. I need to relax. I need to stop getting so upset about football."
