WATCH: Arizona Cardinals' top 10 plays of season

Posted

The Arizona Cardinals' best-ever season in franchise history had far more than 10 incredible plays.

Nonetheless, we did our best to try to tell the story of the Cards' season by highlighting these 10 moments of their incredible (and ongoing) 2015 campaign.

While you're anxiously awaiting the Cards to take the field in Sunday's NFC Championship Game, take a look at some of the top moments of the Red Birds' year.

10. Playing to the whistle (Week 7; Oct. 26)

NFL coaches teach their players to keep playing until they hear an official's whistle blow. Veteran running back Chris Johnson heeded that advice, reeling off a 62-yard run in the third quarter to help the Cards beat the Ravens 26-18 on Monday Night Football.

9. Welcome to the NFL, David Johnson (Week 1; Sept. 13)

Rookie running back David Johnson's first NFL touchdown helped the Cards put away the Saints in their season opener. The third-round draft pick's 55-yard reception from Carson Palmer put Arizona ahead 31-19 with less than two minutes to play.

8. Palmer spikes ball, self (Week 12; Nov. 29)

In the middle of an ugly NFC West division battle at the San Francisco 49ers, Palmer -- not known for his mobility -- ran for a game-winning 8-yard TD. To add to the game's ugliness, Palmer proceeded to spike the ball -- and himself.

7. Floyd's tip-drill touchdown (Divisional playoffs; Jan. 16)

Remember when we thought this was going to be the play of the game?

Palmer didn't have his best night on Saturday against the Packers, but wide receiver Michael Floyd bailed his QB out by catching this deflected pass late in the fourth quarter to give the Cards the lead.

Stay tuned for more on this game.

6. Redding's scoop and score (Week 16; Dec. 27)

The Cardinals' regular-season meeting with Green Bay went much more smoothly than their postseason matchup did, thanks to a Cards defense that racked up nine sacks and two fumbles.

This fumble return for a TD by defensive end Cory Redding (and subsequent homage to Ric Flair with his TD dance) helped the Cards rout the Pack 38-8.

WOOOOO!

5. Dabbing on the Bengals (Week 11; Nov. 22)

Panthers QB Cam Newton isn't the only guy in the NFL who can dab -- but perhaps kickers shouldn't be allowed to do so.

In the final minute of a tie game with the Bengals on Sunday Night Football, Palmer led the Cards downfield with three straight pass completions to set up a game-winning kick by Chandler Catanzaro. Final score: Cards 34, Bengals 31.

The Cat Man celebrated with... this.

4. Freeney frees the Cards (Week 14; Dec. 10)

The Cardinals signed veteran linebacker Dwight Freeney six weeks into the season. The signing paid off, as Freeney went on to lead the team in sacks, including this sack and forced fumble off Vikings QB Teddy Bridgewater late in the fourth quarter of a Thursday night matchup.

Arizona recovered the fumble to preserve a 23-20 victory.

3. Showtime in Chi-town (Week 2; Sept. 20)

How do you make it to the Pro Football Hall of Fame in just two games? Notch a rushing, receiving and kick-return touchdown during that time span.

That's what David Johnson did in his first two games as a pro, becoming the first-ever NFL rookie to do so. This 108-yard kickoff run set the tone for Arizona's 48-23 trouncing of the Bears in Chicago.

2. Stanton struts his stuff (Week 10; Nov. 15)

When it comes to dance moves, Catanzaro has nothing on Cards backup quarterback Drew Stanton -- but perhaps that's a good thing.

As Andre Ellington was sealing the Cards' 39-32 win at the Seahawks with a late 48-yard TD run, Stanton decided to show off his moves on the sideline. Stanton said the dance was inspired by his grade-school-aged son.

1. Larry legend (Divisional playoffs; Jan. 16)

How badly do you think future Hall of Famer Larry Fitzgerald wants to get back to the Super Bowl?

After Packers QB Aaron Rodgers stunned Cards fans with his last-second Hail Mary TD to send the game into overtime, Fitz took over. On the first play of OT, he reeled off a 75-yard run. Two plays later, he finished what he started with a game winning 5-yard TD off a Palmer shovel pass. Final score: Cards 26, Packers 20.
