PHOENIX — Phoenix police are investigating two deadly pedestrian-involved crashes in west Phoenix.
The first crash occurred near 51st Avenue and Camelback Road around 11:30 p.m. Wednesday.
Investigators say a man was sleeping in the roadway when a truck struck him. The driver of the truck was processed for DUI, police say.
The victim, who was taken to a hospital where he later died, has not yet been named.
A second pedestrian-involved crash in the area left a man dead early Thursday morning, police say.
Just before 5 a.m., officers were called to the area of 51st Avenue and Thomas Road for a reported crash involving a pedestrian.
Phoenix firefighters arrived and the pedestrian, 41-year-old Jose Gomez, was pronounced dead at the scene.
Police say the driver of the vehicle remained on scene and is not believed to have been impaired.
Investigators believe Gomez was crossing the street mid-block when the crash occurred.
