TEMPE, AZ — The Tempe Police Department is investigating after a FedEx delivery truck crashed into a home Monday afternoon.
The incident happened in a neighborhood near College Avenue and McKellips Road around 2 p.m.
Police say a FedEx truck swerved to avoid a vehicle doing a u-turn outside of the home, causing the driver to be thrown from the truck. The truck then crashed into the front of the house, coming to a stop.
ABC15 crews spoke to neighbors Monday who say they were startled by the noise.
"All of a sudden, we hear this boom. Windows in my house are rattling like an earthquake. I thought it was an earthquake or something at first," said Wanda Majeski.
Neighbors believe having speed bumps can help prevent future incidents from happening.
"It's better to have something to slow people down because it's dangerous. There are kids out here now; people walk their dogs," said Majeski.
ABC15 shared those concerns with the City of Tempe, sharing information on how residents can submit a request for a speed bump, which includes filling out the form below.
A FedEx spokesperson shared a statement with ABC15 on Monday:
“Our thoughts are with those involved in this accident. There is no higher priority for FedEx than safety, we are fully cooperating with law enforcement in the investigation.”
Police say the driver who performed the u-turn causing the delivery driver to swerve was cited. The FedEx driver was also cited for not wearing their seatbelt.
No serious injuries have been reported and it does not appear that impairment played a factor.
