The Arizona Department of Transportation has multiple construction projects going on this weekend that may impact your travel plans, including work on the I-10, I-17, and Loop 101.
On their website, ADOT reported the following closures and restrictions:
- Eastbound Interstate 10 closed between 99th and 75th avenues in the West Valley from 9 p.m. Friday to 5 a.m. Monday (Sept. 27) for pavement improvement project. Southbound Loop 101 ramp to eastbound I-10 closed. Eastbound I-10 on-ramp at Avondale Boulevard closed. Eastbound I-10 ramp to northbound Loop 101 will be open. Please allow extra travel time.
- Detour: Drivers can consider exiting ahead of the closure and using alternate routes including Van Buren Street or McDowell Road.
- Westbound Loop 101 (Pima Freeway) closed between Pima Road/Princess Drive and Tatum Boulevard from 10 p.m. Friday to 5 a.m. Monday (Sept. 27) for lane striping. Northbound Loop 101 on-ramps at Raintree Drive and Frank Lloyd Wright Boulevard also closed. Allow extra travel time and expect heavy traffic.
- Detour: East Valley drivers can consider using westbound Loop 202 (Red Mountain Freeway) in the Tempe area to northbound State Route 51 in Phoenix to avoid the Loop 101 closure. Northbound Loop 101 drivers should consider exiting ahead of the closure and using alternate routes including westbound Frank Lloyd Wright Boulevard/Bell Road to northbound State Route 51.
- Westbound Interstate 10 narrowed to two lanes between Ray Road and 24th Street (near Sky Harbor Airport) from 3 a.m. to 6 p.m. Saturday (Sept. 25) for Broadway Curve widening project. Westbound Loop 202 (Santan Freeway) and westbound US 60 HOV lane ramps to westbound I-10 closed. Westbound I-10 on-ramp at 40th Street closed. Eastbound I-10 then narrowed to two lanes between 24th Street (near Sky Harbor Airport) and Ray Road from 3 a.m. to 6 p.m. Sunday (Sept. 26) for Broadway Curve widening project. Eastbound I-10 HOV lane ramp to eastbound US 60 closed. Westbound I-10 narrowed to three lanes near Baseline Road (Sunday).
- Detours: Please allow extra travel time and be prepared to slow down and merge safely when approaching and traveling through any of this weekend’s work zones.
- Southbound Interstate 17 closed between Durango Street/19th Avenue and Seventh Street from 10 p.m. Friday to 8 p.m. Saturday (Sept. 25) for bridge project. Both I-10 ramps to southbound I-17 at the “Stack” interchange near McDowell Road closed. Southbound I-17 on-ramps at McDowell Road and Grant Street also closed. Northbound I-17 then closed between the I-10 “Split” interchange near Sky Harbor Airport and Seventh Avenue from 9 p.m. Saturday to 5 a.m. Monday (Sept. 27) for bridge project. Westbound I-10 off-ramp at 24th Street closed.
- Detours: Drivers can consider using I-10 in the downtown Phoenix area as alternate routes.
- Central Avenue closed in both directions at I-17 from 5 a.m. Saturday to 7 p.m. Sunday (Sept. 26) for work on new freeway bridge. Central Avenue limited to local traffic in areas between Buckeye and Broadway roads.
- Detours: Consider using Seventh Avenue or Seventh Street as alternate routes.
Editor's note: The planned closures on eastbound US 60 (Superstition Freeway) between Loop 202 (SuperRedTan Interchange) and Goldfield Road have been postponed due to inclement weather, per ADOT. We have removed that closure from the story.
