Plan for improvement project closures scheduled for parts of I-17, Loop 101 and Loop 202 Santan this weekend (September 11-14), according to the Arizona Department of Transportation.
Here's ADOT's Weekend Freeway Travel Advisory, as it appears on the official website:
- Southbound Interstate 17 closed between Jomax and Deer Valley roads from 9 p.m. Friday to 9 p.m. Saturday (Sept. 12) for pavement improvements as part of interchange reconstruction project. Expect heavy traffic and delays.
- Detour: Allow extra travel time and consider alternate routes. Southbound I-17 traffic exiting to eastbound Jomax Road can use southbound 19th Avenue and westbound Deer Valley Road to return to I-17.
- Northbound Interstate 17 closed between Deer Valley and Jomax roads from 9 p.m. Saturday to 9 p.m. Sunday (Sept. 13) for pavement improvements. Expect heavy traffic and delays.
- Detour: Allow extra travel time and consider alternate routes. Northbound I-17 traffic exiting to eastbound Deer Valley Road can use northbound 19th Avenue and westbound Jomax Road to return to I-17.
- Westbound Loop 101 (Pima Freeway) closed between 56th Street and Tatum Boulevard from 10 p.m. Friday to 5 a.m. Monday (Sept. 14) for widening project. Tatum Boulevard closed in both directions at Loop 101.
- Detour: Drivers should consider alternate freeway routes if possible. Drivers also can exit westbound Loop 101 ahead of the closure and use local routes. Traffic exiting at 56th Street can travel north and use westbound Deer Valley Drive and southbound Tatum Boulevard to reach Loop 101. Expect heavy traffic.
- Northbound State Route 51 ramp to westbound Loop 101 (Pima Freeway) and exit to Black Mountain Boulevard closed from 10 p.m. Friday to 5 a.m. Monday (Sept. 14) for widening project. Westbound Loop 101 narrowed to two lanes between SR 51 and Cave Creek Road. Cave Creek Road closed in both directions at Loop 101.
- Detour: Northbound SR 51 traffic can exit to westbound Union Hills Drive and use northbound Seventh Street to access westbound Loop 101.
- Eastbound Loop 202 (Santan Freeway) closed between I-10 and Loop 101 (Price Freeway) in the Chandler area from 8 p.m. Friday to 5 a.m. Monday (Sept. 14) for pavement improvements. All I-10 ramps to eastbound Loop 202 closed.
- Detour: Alternate routes include eastbound US 60 (Superstition Freeway) to southbound Loop 101 (Price Freeway). Local traffic can use eastbound Chandler Boulevard or Ray Road.
- Southbound Loop 101 (Price Freeway) narrowed to two lanes between Rio Salado Parkway and US 60 (Superstition Freeway) from 8 p.m. Friday to 10 a.m. Sunday (Sept. 13) for pavement improvements. Both Loop 202 (Red Mountain Freeway) ramps to southbound Loop 101 closed. Southbound Loop 101 ramp to westbound US 60 closed. Southbound Loop 101 on-ramp at University Drive and off-ramps at Broadway Road and Southern Avenue closed. Southbound Loop 101 on-ramp at Broadway Road will remain open.
- Detour: Allow extra travel time and consider alternate routes including the southbound Price frontage road, Dobson Road or McClintock Drive.
- Peoria Avenue closed in both directions approaching I-17 (between 25th Avenue and 27th Drive) from 9 p.m. Friday to 5 a.m. Monday (Sept. 14) for storm drain construction. All I-17 on- and off-ramps at Peoria Ave closed. Plan on I-17 frontage road closures in the area.
- Detour: Drivers can exit or enter I-17 via Dunlap Avenue or Cactus Road and use 19th or 35th avenues for north-south travel.
- Interstate 17 narrowed to one lane in either direction overnight near Pinnacle Peak and Happy Valley roads from 9 p.m. to 5 a.m. Sunday through Thursday nights (Sept. 13-17) for interchange construction.
- Detour: Allow extra travel time and use caution in work zones.
- Reminder: Northbound I-17 on-ramp and southbound off-ramp at Happy Valley Road closed until mid-October for interchange reconstruction. Frontage road closures also in place near Happy Valley Road. Plan on using other area ramps.
