PHOENIX — Phoenix police are investigating a shooting near 95th Avenue and McDowell Road in west Phoenix.
At about 6:45 a.m. Saturday, officers were outside of their vehicles conducting a traffic stop when they heard several gunshots nearby.
Officials say the officers believed the shots were possibly directed at them.
During the investigation, the westbound lanes of Interstate 10 were temporarily shut down at 83rd Avenue. They were reopened just before 8:00 a.m.
The Arizona Department of Public Safety says troopers were called to the area to assist.
An investigation remains ongoing.
