MESA, AZ — The Department of Public Safety says a man was found dead in a vehicle along Loop 202 near Alma School Road Sunday morning.
The eastbound lanes of Loop 202 Red Mountain were temporarily closed for the investigation.
DPS officials say when the trooper stopped to check the vehicle they found a man in the driver's side who was unresponsive.
When the trooper looked closer for a welfare check they discovered the driver had suffered a gunshot wound. Emergency crews arrived and pronounced the man dead.
He has been identified as 50-year-old Keith Henion of Mesa.
A homicide investigation remains underway.
