One person is dead, and another is in critical condition after a crash occurred overnight near Picacho Peak, according to DPS officials.
Officials say the fatal crash occurred just after 9 p.m. Thursday night on eastbound I-10 near Picacho Peak Road when a 2012 Nissan, driven by a 22-year-old female, was traveling westbound and went off the road. It is unknown why the Nissan went off the road.
DPS officials say the Nissan went off the road to the left, crossed the median, and entered the eastbound lane, striking a 2018 Toyota van being driven by an unidentified female.
Officials say a 2017 Ford pickup then struck the passenger side of the Nissan.
The driver of the Nissan was pronounced dead at the scene, DPS officials say. The driver of the Toyota van was transported to a hospital and is in critical condition.
The driver of the Ford pickup was transported to a hospital with non-life threatening injuries.
I-10 at Picacho Peak Road was closed overnight, except for one lane in each direction as officials conducted an investigation. Roads reopened around 3 a.m.
