Weekend Freeway Travel Advisory (Sept. 27-30): Plan for I-10 closures

Improvement projects will require closures or lane restrictions along Interstate 10 and Loop 101 (Price Freeway) in the Phoenix area this weekend (Sept. 27-30), according to the Arizona Department of Transportation. Drivers should allow extra travel time, consider alternate routes and focus on safe driving while the following restrictions are in place:

  • Westbound Interstate 10 closed between 51st and 75th avenues in west Phoenix from 10 p.m. Friday to 7 a.m. Sunday (Sept. 29) for work on the Loop 202 South Mountain Freeway interchange. Westbound I-10 on-ramps at 27th, 35th and 43rd avenues also closed. DETOUR: Expect heavy traffic and delays. Alternate routes include westbound and southbound Loop 101 (Agua Fria Freeway) in the West Valley. Consider exiting westbound I-10 ahead of the closure and using McDowell Road or Van Buren Street as local detour routes.
  • Note: Eastbound I-10 left two lanes closed between 59th and 51st avenues from 11:30 p.m. Friday to 7 a.m. Sunday (Sept. 29).
  • Interstate 10 narrowed to one lane in both directions between Wild Horse Pass Boulevard and Riggs Road south of Chandler from 4:30 a.m. to noon Saturday (Sept. 28) for pavement sealing work. Eastbound I-10 on- and off-ramps between Wild Horse Pass Boulevard and Riggs Road, including both ramps at SR 347/Queen Creek Road, closed. Both Loop 202 ramps to eastbound I-10 also closed.
  • DETOUR: Expect heavy traffic and delays. Allow extra travel time and consider alternate routes.
  • Interstate 10 narrowed to one lane in both directions between Wild Horse Pass Boulevard and Riggs Road from 4:30 a.m. to noon Sunday (Sept. 29) for pavement sealing work. Westbound I-10 on- and off-ramps between Riggs Road and Wild Horse Pass Boulevard, including both ramps at SR 347/Queen Creek Road, closed.
  • DETOUR: Expect heavy traffic and delays. Allow extra travel time and consider alternate routes.
  • Southbound Loop 101 (Price Freeway) narrowed to two lanes between Ray Road and Chandler Boulevard from 10 p.m. Friday to 5 a.m. Monday (Sept. 30) for widening project. Drivers also should plan for on- or off-ramp closures at times along Loop 101 between US 60 and Chandler Boulevard this weekend.
  • DETOUR: Be prepared to use ramps at other nearby interchanges.
  • Southbound Interstate 17 off-ramp at Seventh Avenue closed from 10 p.m. Friday to 5 a.m. Tuesday (Oct. 1) for Valley Metro/city of Phoenix project. Seventh Avenue also narrowed to one lane in both directions near I-17.
  • DETOUR: Alternate routes include Seventh Street and 19th Avenue.
