Two wrong-way drivers were stopped on Valley freeways within hours of each other overnight.

Arizona Department of Public Safety officials say the first incident was reported on Interstate 10 near mile marker 153, which is near 48th Street, Tuesday night.

Witnesses reported seeing a Mazda sedan traveling at a high rate of speed eastbound in the westbound lanes with no headlights.

DPS says a trooper was able to pull up beside the driver to get his attention. He eventually stopped on US 60 at Higley Road in the emergency lane and was taken into custody.

Impairment was ruled out.

Hours later, troopers in the West Valley stopped a wrong-way driver first reported along Loop 303 near Lake Pleasant Parkway.

DPS says the driver was elderly and confused and was not impaired at the time. The driver self-corrected and pulled over when troopers made contact with them.

No injuries were reported during the incident.
