PHOENIX — Monday will be an ABC15 Weather Action Day. Take action now to get ready for significant impacts across our state. That may include changing your travel plans to avoid the high country as roads get slick and icy starting tonight.
Rain and snow will start to move in late tonight and pick up in intensity Monday morning just in time for the early commute.
Winds will pick up as well in the high country with peak gusts up to 45 mph and up to 25 mph here in the Valley.
Early estimates show that the snow level could drop to 3,500 feet in elevation with five to nine inches of snow expected for areas above 5,000 feet.
A Winter Weather Advisory is in effect for areas above 5,000 feet starting Sunday night through Tuesday morning across northwestern, northern, eastern and southeastern Arizona.
Here in the Valley, expect a cold and soggy Monday, some spots could get as much as half of an inch of rain.
It's going to get cold, too!
Valley highs will fall into the 50s starting Monday with overnight lows in the 30s.
Up north, overnight temperatures plunge into the single digits.
With all of that cold air, we have a good chance to see our first freeze of the season Tuesday and Wednesday morning across central and southern Arizona. This will include metro Phoenix.
Temperatures will start to slowly rebound by the end of next week.
