Your kids will love this free fire truck event at Lowe’s

Calling all future firefighters! Select Lowe’s locations are now offering free, hands-on fun during their Build and Grow events. If you’re lucky enough to have a participating store in your area, you can take your child in this week to put together a wooden firetruck!

It is important to note that this is not yet offered in all Lowe’s locations. While Lowe’s says the program will eventually expand to stores nationwide, it is currently only available in areas surrounding Charlotte, North Carolina; Nashville, Tennessee; and Seattle, Washington.

If that happens to be near you, the fire truck event will be held Sept. 14 from 9 a.m. – noon. The build is meant to kick off Fire Safety Awareness Month in October a bit early. It gives your child a chance to build and take home a toy fire truck, along with a free apron, goggles and a project-themed patch.

Each clinic takes about 15-30 minutes and you must check in by 11 a.m. You also have to pre-register to save your child’s place.

There’s another Build and Grow event coming up in October, too. Kids can build a spooky haunted house on Saturday, Oct. 19, just in time for Halloween! Registration opens Sept. 14.

Just like the fire truck, the haunted house will take about 15-30 minutes, so you should check in by 11 a.m. to make sure your child has time to participate.

Future kids’ events have not yet been listed, but you can keep checking the Lowe’s Build and Grow website to find out what’s coming.

If you don’t live near one of the Lowe’s stores offering one of these free events, you may want to check out Home Depot. They have a similar program nationwide, with their next event also commemorating Fire Safety Awareness Month.

From 9 a.m. until 12 p.m. on Saturday, Oct. 5, kids can let their imaginations run wild as they build a fire plane, using a screwdriver to connect all the pieces. Kids will attach the wings and landing gear, adjust the tail fin and decorate the propellers with stickers.

Kids get to keep their craft, of course. They also receive a free certificate of achievement, a workshop apron and a commemorative pin while supplies last. You will need to pre-register at your local Home Depot, so make sure to do so soon.
