Kids may be back in school and not as bored as they were over the summer, but if you’re still looking for some hands-on activities to keep them busy on the weekends, JCPenney has just the thing.

The department store is now offering a Kids Zone area where you’ll find fun and free entertainment. And this Saturday, Sept. 14 from 11 a.m. – noon, if you take your kiddos to a participating location, they can decorate a pair of crazy sunglasses!

It looks like kids can choose from either a unicorn or an alligator and will be decorating the glasses with stickers.

Following the crazy sunglasses, kids will be able to create “Little Harvest Monsters” on Oct. 12, followed by a Disney event on Nov. 9. JCPenney does not say what you can expect for the Disney event, so you’ll want to check back later.

The events will take place every second Saturday of the month and, if you bring the coupon on JCPenney’s website, you’ll also get 10% off when shopping in-store the same day. Your child will also get an ID badge, a lanyard, a collector’s pin and a master medallion if they complete six projects.

Looking for even more fun and free events to do with your kids? Select Lowe’s stores are now offering Build and Grow events, At the next one, your kids can build their own wooden firetruck, followed by a spooky haunted house just in time for Halloween. You have to live in select cities to participate, but the event is completely free if you do.

If you don’t live near a participating Lowe’s store,  Home Depot has a similar program at stores nationwide. Their next build is a fire plane on Saturday, Oct. 5. Using a screwdriver to connect all the pieces, kids will attach the wings and landing gear, adjust the tail fin and decorate the propellers with stickers.

Will you be taking your kids to any of these events to spark their creativity?
